Change Of Ownership Or Vessel Alteration
Re-registration is required when there is a change in vessel ownership or if there is any major alteration to a vessel.
Change of Ownership
The new owner must satisfy the prerequisites for registration.
Procedure for Re-registration Upon Change of Ownership
- Obtain approval for the vessel name, where required
- Download and submit the completed application form
- Submit the following documents:
- Business Profile report listing company’s particulars.
- Completed application form for the appointment of an agent, where required.
- Completed application form for the appointment of a manager, where required.
- Completed Bill of Sale.
- Class Certificate with latest survey endorsement.
- Certified Carving and Marking Note on the change of the vessel’s name, where applicable.
- Value of vessel in Singapore dollars (S$), if not stated in Bill of Sale.
- Business Profile report listing company’s particulars.
- Make payments for both of the following:
- Re-registration fee of S$1.25 per net ton (to the nearest ton), subject to a minimum of S$1,250 and a maximum of S$6,000.
- Annual tonnage tax at S$0.20 per net ton (to the nearest ton), subject to a minimum of S$100 (500 Net Tonnage) and a maximum of S$10,000.00 (50,000 Net Tonnage).
- Re-registration fee of S$1.25 per net ton (to the nearest ton), subject to a minimum of S$1,250 and a maximum of S$6,000.
Alteration to a Vessel
- A vessel needs to be re-registered when an alteration is made to any of the following:
- Hull or structure affecting the length, breadth, depth or the dimensions of any closed-in space.
- Means of propulsion.
- To the extent that the vessel does not correspond with the description in the Certificate of Registry.
- Hull or structure affecting the length, breadth, depth or the dimensions of any closed-in space.
- The advice of the Registrar should be sought in specific instances before an alteration or change is made to the vessel.
Procedure for Re-registration Upon Alteration to a Vessel
- Download and submit the completed application form.
- Submit the following documents:
- Completed application form for the appointment of an agent, where required.
- Completed application form for the appointment of a manager, where required.
- Tonnage Certificate, where the tonnage has changed.
- Evidence of seaworthiness.
- Certified Carving and Marking Note indicating the change of the vessel’s name, where applicable.
- Make payments for both of the following:
- Annual tonnage tax at S$0.20 per net ton (to the nearest ton), subject to a minimum of S$100 (500 NT and a maximum of S$10,000 (50,000 NT).
- Re-registration fee of:
S$2.50 x (NTa – NTo) OR S$50,000 – 2.50 x NT whichever is the lower, subject to a minimum of S$1,250, and where: NTa = NT after alteration NTo = NT as at previous registration (ie. initial registration or previous re-registration).
Acceptance of Provisional Registration
- Upon completion of all formalities, the Certificate of Registry will be issued.
- The old Certificate of Registry must be returned or be undertaken to be returned to the registry within 30 days of the issue date of the new Certificate of Registry.
