The Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) on 1 November 2021 launched the voluntary SRS notations. SRS is the first ship registry in the world to introduce notations for vessels. The notations aim to encourage Singapore ships to drive and promote sustainable shipping, digital transformation and seafarers' well-being. The notations also serve to encourage Singapore ship owners, operators and managers to adopt new solutions to enhance operational efficiency, safety, security, environmental protection and the well-being of crew on board.

Four main categories of notations have been introduced to ship owners, operators and managers at no additional cost. The four categories are:

a. "Green" Notation that will be awarded to Singapore ships that have adopted technologies and/or alternative fuels to reduce their carbon intensity.

b. "Cyber" Notation that will be awarded to Singapore ships that have adopted advanced cyber security systems to protect their four main shipboard Operational Technology (OT) systems from cyber-attacks.

c. "Smart" Notation that will be awarded to Singapore ships that are using advanced technologies to enhance shipboard operations.

d. "Welfare" Notation that will be awarded to Singapore ships that enhance seafarers' quality of life onboard and have a system to monitor and enhance mental wellness.

The details, application form and checklist of the SRS Notations can be found on our' website here. To apply for the notations, ship owners, operators and managers can submit the application form and checklist(s) to SRSnotation@mpa.gov.sg.

Singapore ships that are awarded with SRS notation(s) will be issued with a Certificate of Recognition for each notation awarded. Thus far, MPA has awarded several Singapore ships with SRS Notations and their details have been published on our website. We thank the ship owners, operators, and managers for their continued support for the SRS and the SRS Notations.
