The NAPA Emergency Response Tool (NAPA ER Tool) is a powerful tool commonly used by the industry to help ship operators, classification societies and salvage companies as a modelling and decision-making aid. The software allows users to quickly build a model of the ship and simulate the emergency situations or damage scenarios that the ship is experiencing. Key pertinent technical information on the ship's residual stability and structural strength for recovery strategies can be tested quickly using the software. This allow decisions to be made effectively and efficiently in the event of an accident.
To ensure that MPA's officers remain up to date and are equipped with skills to utilise the latest software in the industry, MPA has arranged for a team of Senior Marine Surveyors to attend the NAPA ER Tool Course that was conducted from 3 to 11 May. During the course, the participants were trained in using the newest NAPA ER Tool to aid and expedite the decision-making process for selecting the best recovery action when a ship is in a hazardous situation.
