As part of MPA's continual effort to uphold Singapore as a quality ship registry, the Flag State Control (FSC) Department conducted four (4) workshops in the month of March 2017. The workshops aimed to assist our shipowners and companies in improving the quality and implementation of their safety management systems and achieving better safety performances. The workshops were attended by 200 senior staff from 80 companies and 8 Recognised Organisations.
Participants were briefed on the performance of the Singapore flag including Port State Control (PSC) detention statistics, and were imparted with useful techniques for investigation, root-cause analysis and formulation of corrective action plans to help companies prevent common serious deficiencies on their ships.
The participants made use of the knowledge gained during the workshop and took part in a group exercise that challenged them to analyse and identify the underlying causes of several PSC detention case studies, and develop appropriate corrective action plans to prevent the recurrence of similar problems
We were also honoured to have V. Ships Asia Group, BW Fleet Management, Maersk Line and Swire Pacific share their experiences and best practices during the workshops.
