Lease Extension of ISC
The Integrated Simulation Centre (ISC) was set up in July 2002 under an agreement between MPA and Singapore Polytechnic (SP). The simulation system, located within SP’s campus and operated by MPA, comprises of two Full Mission Bridge Simulators (FMBS) – one 360° field-of-view Full Mission Ship Handling Simulator (FMSS) and one 240° field-of-view Tug/Small Vessel Simulator (TSVS).
On 2 December 2016, Mr Andrew Tan, Chief Executive of MPA and Mr Soh Wai Wah, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of SP signed an agreement to extend the lease of the ISC for 5 years, with an option of a further 3 year extension. This would enable MPA to remain committed in providing cost-effective simulation facilities that serve the shipping community.
The ISC provides high-quality simulation training with a wide range of realistic scenarios for various ship types within a risk-free environment. The simulators are used for the conduct of training and examination of pilots, port-limit course trainees and Certificate of Competency candidates. The ISC is also used to provide customised training for crews of shipping companies. Apart from seafarers’ training, the ISC can also be utilised for research and development activities in the areas of port and terminal development, maritime risk assessments and investigations of shipping incidents.
